Monasteries and the Reformation in Scotland by Mark Dilworth
Monasteries and the Reformation in Scotland by Mark Dilworth, The Aquhorties Press, Edinburgh, 2010, 165 pages
Monasteries and the Reformation in Scotland explores the various facets of monasticism in Scotland in the later middle ages. The chapter on Paisley outlines its relations with the motherhouse of the order at Cluny and also with its daughter-house at Crossraguel. The chapter on the Valliscaulian priories gives the very little that is known of their relations with the mother-house at Val des Choux and with each other in the two centuries following their foundation. The chequered relationship of all these houses with their local bishop is also part of the story.
